Law Update:
– Parole in Place Ruling
A federal judge struck down the Biden administration’s “Keeping Families Together” program that would have allowed approximately 500,000 undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens to gain legal status and a path to citizenship without leaving the United States. The judge, appointed by Trump, said the program violated immigration law, siding with a lawsuit filed by more than 13 Republican-led states. The Department of Justice under President Biden can appeal the ruling, but the new Trump administration could drop the appeal.
– DACA
The 580,000 people currently protected under DACA will be vulnerable to deportation under the Trump administration. Their applications state they are undocumented — proof that they can be deported — and the government has information on where they live same as with other groups that could be targeted are people with humanitarian parole and TPS.
