Cabrini Health is a Catholic, private, not-for-profit health service in Australia. Founded in 1948, we are sponsored by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We have 4056 staff, 190 volunteers, 1200 medical practitioners and 832 inpatient beds. Our services span aged care, cancer care, cardiac services, children’s care, emergency care, health promotion, home/community-based care, maternity services, palliative care, rehabilitation, research and education.
Our comprehensive health service comprises:
- Three acute hospitals in Brighton, Malvern and Prahran
- Two rehabilitation hospitals in Elsternwick
- A residential aged-care home in Ashwood
- Cabrini Institute http://www.cabrini.com.au/research-and-education
- Cabrini Linen Service http://www.cabrinilinen.com.au
- Chemtronics http://www.chemtronics.com.au/home/index.php
- Cabrini Foundation http://www.cabrini.com.au/about-us/cabrini-foundation
We have an active social and community outreach program, which is designed to identify and meet unmet needs in our community and involves our staff and doctors. The four main areas of focus are:
- Serving the most marginalized
- Community engagement
- Aboriginal health and well being
- International health
Overall, we invest approximately 2.5 per cent of turnover in community benefit projects and support for staff. Our approach to social outreach was formalised in 1992 with the establishment of Cabrini Centacare: a partnership with Centacare Catholic Family Services Malvern involving funding to establish family counselling services in the City of Stonnington.
