On Sunday, October 4, 2020 Sr. Joan McGlinchey, MSC received the Partners in Mission Award from the Sisters of the Living Word from Sr. Sharon Glum, SLW, congregational leader.
“We are very happy to present the Partner in Mission Award to Sister Joan McGlinchey, MSC.
The Partners in Mission represent a person or community with significant connections, providing support at crucial moments. Joan embodies the spirit of her congregation (in Chicago known as Cabrini Sisters) in her gentle, firm and unwavering devotion to works of charity and mercy especially through advocacy.
“We, Sisters of the Living Word, have been beneficiaries of that advocacy in her work as Vicar for Religious in the Archdiocese of Chicago. For nearly 30 years she has served as our link and point person within the Universal Church. She has journeyed with us through many of the milestones of our congregation.
Joan is also a nationally recognized leader and advocate for Latina Sisters who come to the US from countries across Latin America. Her devotion to enhancing their voices led her to co-found ARHEU, the Association of Hispanic Sisters in the United States, and to build intercultural connections with Sisters in this country.
The Sisters of the Living Word are on a firm foundation to move into the future because you have been our partner in ministry.” Sr. Sharon Glumb, SLW, said in presenting the award to Sr. Joan.
The Sisters of the Living Word are a diocesan congregation in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Responding to urgent needs of our times, they devote energy to advocacy for immigrants and refugees, the homeless, victims of human trafficking and the care of the earth.
