On Tuesday, August 27th, our National Shrine in Chicago was guest to a live broadcast from national superstation WGN-TV. The program titled Around Town with host Ana Belaval, filmed the Shrine from 9am to 11am.
Each segment focused on a different area of the Shrine, starting in the Museum area where Ana spoke about Mother Cabrini’s work in Chicago when she opened Columbus Hospital and the first American-Italian elementary school, which was free.
was Mother Cabrini’s habit, along with Mother’s room. Executive Director Laurie A Halaska shared how Mother Cabrini was working up the day she died and also spoke about how all the intentions received by the Shrine are placed under Mother Cabrini’s pillow.
The morning show then headed to the chapel, where Development Director, Barb Willis spoke about the beautiful architecture, stained glass, mosaics and also highlighted our upcoming fundraiser on October 24th.
Sister Laura Baldini, MSC shared the missionary work of the order and the vision of all of the sisters as Mother Cabrini’s work continues around the world today.
As the camera panned around the ceiling of the chapel, our Shrine’s Music Director, James Kapellas played our Tamburini Pipe Organ which dates back to when the chapel was built in 1955.
